There is no such thing as coincidence...
Throughout our life’s journey we often find ourselves facing various unexpected coincidences or strange happenings in our day to day existence here on earth. For me I have experienced many different things that happened to me and humans tend to state ‘it was just a dream or an unexplainable ‘coincidence’. To understand this word ‘coincidence’ I found myself going back to the Families that meant so much to me. To define the word Family [Families] I chose to use the Collins English/Thesaurus on-line dictionary for the original hard copy edition never left my side during my Post Graduate work in Teacher Training. This definition means alot to me as I was brought up in two families my Biological and my Church family they were always there for me.
Family Families: a primary social group consisting of parents and their offspring, the principal function of which is provision for its members. This definition was simple and straight forward and years later South African Desmond Tutu would remind us "You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them"2Ibid
I referred to Families in the plural because I had a Birth Family and was blessed with extended families by birth or marriage yet the one I looked towards and cherished while growing up was for me my Church Family. Together the two families were equal in my eyes because my parents always referred to them as ‘One unit together.’ Both parents taught us to respect, love, cherish, care and Honor God the Creator, His Son Jesus and Our family. Wow one could not ask for more?
Throughout life’s journey we often find ourselves coming across various unexpected strange events or happenings. Walking down the street someone catches your eye and for some unexpected reason you are compelled to speak to them. Or perhaps you see a news story or an article in a newspaper, a photo on a billboard or you become aware of a national or international disaster story that draws you in and you feel a need to reach out and help in some way. Is all this preordained or just a coincidence? Are we programmed to accept these things as an everyday occurrences or have we become so used to disasters and failings in society and the world that we forget to look for the good that surrounds us?
On 27 February 2014 parts of the United Kingdom experienced the joy of watching the spectacular Northern Lights. My son and I looked outside and although we could not view this spectacular event we had the most beautiful clear sky and it sparkled showing all the wonder of God’s promise in Genesis 1: vs. 3 –“Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then He separated the light from darkness. God called the light “day” and darkness “night”. And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.”
Tonight our eyes again experienced the wonder and beauty of Gods’ handiwork in our lives. It made me think of time when the course curriculum in the states stopped teaching the Bible alongside the science courses in the 1960’s we had to only believe what is now known as ‘Big Bang theory’ which states (physics) the theory that the origin of the universe was in a cataclysmic explosion in which all the matter of the universe, packed into a small superdense mass, was hurled in all directions. When the practice exams came out we were asked to explain the theory of the universe by the only the scientific theory taught in our classroom and to discuss how it affected the creation of planets?” My parents were upset by this and told me I would not venture into this theory set out by the school board and I had to quote the Bible. I took my parents views on board and when it came time for the final exam I wrote on the paper two different answers and tied them together noting my beliefs first and the required exam answer second.
The question was: Explain the Scientific theory of Creation? My answer: “I choose first to state I will always believe Gods’ word over the Science explanation.” (And at age 15 I added extra wording) “The Bible is Gods’ word to us stating how HE created the universe. Which for me is far more understandable than the one taught to me in class.” “I believe the book of Geneses is true and blessed with the fullness of God’s Love.” Then I wrote what I learned for class from my notes. And added Sir, I will accept your decision but; I’ll know in my heart I quoted the best source and His account has stood the test of time.” Thank you”.
Oh by the way I passed with a mark of ‘D’ and when my parents looked at my report card the Science teacher had added his own note. “I had to grade according to the chosen answer of the Exam Board paper but, I give her credit for standing up to what she believes. For me I always admired that teacher and am thankful that he cared enough to understand where I was coming from. Amen
So today what made you stop and smile and/or think or speak out about something that is important to you? Was it luck that you found a coin on the ground? Did something stay on your mind when you woke this morning? Was it just a dream or did you feel you got an answer to a prayer? Perhaps once you were one of those sceptics who just accepted the scientific theory as the truth and believed there is no God so all this was just a fluke or more commonly known as ‘a coincidence.’ I believe still to this day Gods’ account on creation. Amen

Prayer is the lifeblood of an intimate relationship with the Father. However, believers often have questions about its power and effectiveness. Don’t hesitate to take your requests to the Lord, dig into Scripture for answers, and seek the counsel of a trusted spiritual mentor. Prayer is too important to neglect.
Will God’s plans fail if I don’t pray? God is not subservient to believers or dependent upon their prayers. The time we invest in speaking with Him involves us in the work that He is doing in our lives and in the world, but He will carry on without us. Laboring alongside the Lord is our privilege.
Does my prayer (or lack thereof) influence God’s work? I believe that Scripture indicates the answer to this question is both yes and no, depending upon the situation. There are times when God’s purpose is set. In the Old Testament, the Lord often prophesied what He would do and then brought those events to pass.
In other cases, “You do not have because you do not ask” - James 4:2
He holds some good things back until we put out prayerful hands to receive them. Nevertheless, because God is a loving Father, He also pours our blessings that we wouldn’t even think to request.
Believer’s prayers have tremendous impact, particularly on their own faith and life. Do you understand what an awesome privilege it is to kneel before the all-powerful Father and know that He listens? God loves to be good to His children and answer their prayers. He has not forsaken you.
You are Loved. You are a Child of the Most High God.
He Cares when you are spiritually wounded. He listens.
